Natural Skincare Tips #5
Switching to Organic Or Natural Skincare Products?
There is no doubt in my mind that you are reading this because you are either already converted in the power of organic and natural products are you are considering switching. We all have our reasons for doing this and this can include becoming sick ourselves or someone close to us, personal preference or a lifestyle choice. We all know of someone affected by diseases and ailments that can be prevented by stopping things like smoking or drinking but how often do we look at what we put on our skin?
It may seem trivial at first and you may be dismissing this saying 'I only put it on my skin, I do not swallow my chemically-based moisturizer!' However, we all know that the very purpose of most skin care products is for our body to assimilate and absorb the ingredients which are meant to carry the positive benefits. Would we really spend our hard-earned money on products that merely coat the surface of the skin and then get washed away the second we jump in the bath or shower?

7 Reasons To Switch To Natural Skincare
If you’re wondering why or how you are going to switch to natural skincare when you have a bathroom full of beauty products you probably haven’t even half consumed, well let me tell you that it’s more than just your skin that will thank you! My brother often teases me about choosing organics. Midway through the meal, he’ll facetiously ask ‘is that organic?’ in an attempt to poke fun at my expensive organic, raw zucchini noodles.
For those who understand the benefits of choosing produce grown without chemicals, it’s a small price to pay for preventative health. The same goes for skincare. Why Switch To Natural Skincare? Here are seven reasons natural, organic ingredients are better for you:
Overall Health & Wellbeing
Ok guys, listen, please don’t wait until you’re sick with a disease or condition to start reviewing your toxic load and then switch to a healthy lifestyle. Too many people do this far too late. I’m talking about changing to organic food, organic skincare, natural household products, and using turmeric, coconut oil, and apple cider vinegar as a cure-all. Ok, that last bit was a bit tongue in cheek. There’s an alarming amount of data proving how common chemicals in personal care, household and gardening items may contribute to cancer, allergies and may also even disrupt hormone levels. There is no better time than now to take responsibility for the fate of your health, take preventative measures and ditch the toxic load.
For Your Kids & Family’s Health
Is it fair to say that if you’re interested in your health, then you care about the health of your family, too? Well, your beauty/personal care products are probably being opened/consumed/squirted all over the bathroom mirror by other busy little bodies (ahem, I mean family members). Think body washes, shampoos, soaps, your super expensive moisturizer that no matter how well you hid, always seems to be found by the wrong hands.
When I had my first child, I began to question and research what toxins lurked in my laundry detergent, household cleaning products, and the cosmetics I used. I didn’t want to give my new baby 1,001 kisses and transfer toxic chemicals! Now with my second, he’s 11 months now, here’s a pic just because every product I put on my face, including lipstick, I do love a pop of color, is 100% natural and vegan and almost edible.

At the end of the day, you are going to have to make an informed decision after doing your own research and making a judgment call on the benefits. After many years of not looking at or questioning what I ate, what I drank or what I put on my skin I can honestly say I have been very lucky to have my eyes opened. I feel now that I am making more informed decisions as to what I use and what I eat and drink and feel a lot better for it. Knowing exactly what I put on my skin has left me with no doubt as to the benefits of natural and organic skincare products and the feeling that you are left with that you are no putting any potentially harmful chemicals on your skin.
The jury will always be out and no doubt the big players in the skincare market will be quick to dismiss organic and natural skincare (or embrace it to make lots of money!) but please consider all angles and just think about it.
